Session 2

Improving Observation and Prediction of Weather and Climate Extremes

Conveners:

Ki-Hong Min (Kyungpook National University)
Xiu-Qun Yang (Nanjing University)
IzuruTakayabu (Meteorological Research Institute)

This session calls for presentations that focus on improving observations and prediction of weather and climate extremes. We welcome original researches based on new and emerging observational techniques, numerical model development and studies, analyses of observational data, and climate extreme analysis and prediction studies.

Following are some topic examples:

  • New and emerging observation techniques
  • Cloud microphysics and numerical models for extreme weather and climate
  • Attribution and characterization of extreme temperatures and heat waves
  • Analysis and simulation studies of Asian Monsoon
  • Climate extreme and prediction studies
  • New methods for climate variability studies

We look forward to having submissions especially from young scientists in the partner societies.

Invited speakers:

Song-You Hong (Korea Institute of Atmospheric Prediction Systems)
Michael Baldwin (Purdue University)
